The hand fasting is an ancient wedding ceremony. After making vows to each other, the couple are fastened together at the hand by a cord, hence the old saying “ tying the knot “.

Hand fasting originated long before the coming of Christianity and the wedding service as we know it today. There was no wedding ring as the ring was introduced by the Egyptians, so the cord would be retained by the happy couple as a reminder of their vows and their special day. It is a beautiful way of joining together two loving souls.

Hand fasting is gaining in popularity once more as many people opt for themed medieval or ancient style weddings and many people are also finding it a natural and beautiful way to renew their marriage vows.

In the old days the service would have been performed by a village elder, a high priest or priestess or even by a friend of the couple.

It should be remembered that the hand fasting service is a ‘pre Christian’ and not ‘anti Christian’ ceremony and therefore may be attended by people of any religious background.

What we can say of a hand fasting is that it is a beautiful experience. The couple come together before family and friends and before a lovely altar of candles, flowers, incense and wine. We open our hearts and share the moment with all those present.

With Fantaysia you will find that no two ceremonies are the same and yours will be written personally for you by our ceremony officiate.
